Let´s be Genius!

We all want our kiddos to enhance sentence writing skills, am I right? 

Give me an "oh yeah!"

Well to do so, WBT has come up with the Genius Ladder!

How to start?

I do it orally at the beginnig of the year, and later on paper. You may be asking yourself "Why orally?" Well because we can get more orally examples and it increase mental linguistic fluency.

What I do first, is to play it as a game for about 15 minutes every day. I have seen my kiddos learn to use nouns, verbs, adjectives, and prepositions creatively while writing complex topic sentences and tightly focused paragraphs!

How to use the genius ladder?

Let´s talk first about the Sample Blah sentences which should follow this pattern

                   Article--Noun--Verb   

                        The puppy plays

Erase the noun or the verb of the Blah sentences and challenge students to orally fill in the blanks as many times as possible with a neigbor. 

 The ____________ plays

                                                         Noun

Next step is the Spicy sentence which adds an adjective. We follow the same precedures as with the blah sentence

The ____ puppy plays.

                                                          Adj

The funny puppy plays.

Now we go to the Extender sentence, all we do here is add on to the sentence
                   The funny puppy plays______  

                                                       adder

                   The funny puppy plays at night. 

We can also use Extender sentence to teach preposition and prepositional phases or conjunctions: because/but/and/or

    The funny puppy plays______ ..... 

                                         adder
    The funny puppy plays at night because it sleeps all day.

Finally, let´s get into the writting that is into Genius paragraph. SS get the topic sentence from the Extender sentence, which is what the whole paragraph is about, and "Give me more!" But remember the three rules: 
Rule 1: Don´t start a sentence with "and" 
Rule 2: Don´t start a sentence with "because"
Rule 3: Don´t get two sentence in a role that start with the same word
